Golf communities have grown very popular worldwide in the past few dec- ades, attracting the sport’s avid enthusiasts as well as non-enthusiasts to the serene and lush green landscape of the golf course-linked resi- dences. The exclusivity and the easy access to premium leisure amenities make these themed communities a life- style statement on their own. With Dubai being recog- nised as one of the world’s leading golfing venues, the development of golf-themed residential communities is also fast gaining momentum in the emirate. “The UAE has made sig- nificant strides in establish- class golf clubs. Majority of the golf courses in the coun- try are in Dubai.”The emirate’s position- ing as a meetings, incen- tives, conferences and ex- hibitions [Mice] hub is also attracting business travel- lers to its golf destinations.”
Dubai is strongly driv- en to position itself among the world’s elite, says Niall McLoughlin, Senior Vice- President of Damac Proper- ties. “It is ranked number six as a global destination for golf tourism, according to a KPMG study,” he says. “Golf holiday sales around the world grew by 9.3 per cent year-on-year, and this is in a 1.5-billion-euro business.
world-class golf courses has been widely recognised, hav-ing been nominated for the Established Golf Destina- tion of the Year award for the fourth time by the Inter- national Association of Golf Tour Operators.
“Golf tourism is reallv big” There are 20 golf clubs here, two of which have two golf courses [each], for a to- tal of 22 golf courses across the UAE.” While Dubai’s courses have attracted golfers from around the world, the emir- ate is also taking advantage of having a place to stay dur- ing a golf holiday in Dubai,” says Coles. “Most will choose the stay-and-play option of- fered by some golf clubs such as the Jebel Ali Golf Course.”
Golf communities offer a more relaxed lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of the city, with the greenery and the different kinds of birds that are found in these places. Moreover, tempera- tures are up to five degrees cooler in these communities compared with other parts of Dubai. “Because of the luxuri- ous views and high main- tenance cost, they attract high-end development and subsequently appeal to high- end customers,” Coles says. “Moreover. golf communities million for a four- or five- bedroom villa, with some villas even going above Dh20 million.”
The price of a golf home depends on the location of the community and the views. Villas with direct views of the golf course are the most expensive ones, ac- cording to Coles.”However, it is not only golfers who buy homes in golf communities,” she says.”Many buyers simply appre- ciate the relaxed lifestyle, the stunning views and the pleasant microclimate.”
Majority of the golf com- munities in Dubai are found in Emirates Hills, Arabian Ranches, Greens, Dubai Creek, Festival City, Dubai Snorts City and Tumeirah Golf.
“Dubai being in the desert, a lot of people look for greenery, and golf courses can offer them this.”
